William Koeberlé, President of the French Commerce Council, announced on Tuesday November 17 on franceinfo a meeting next Friday with the government and representatives of traders. The Prime Minister had set a reopening of non-essential stores on December 1 if the health situation did not deteriorate again. Industry professionals are calling for November 27, Black Friday, the usual kickoff for end-of-year races.
“They asked us on Monday to work again on strengthening health protocols because there is a meeting to be held on November 20,” announced William Koeberlé. “We feel supported by Minister Bruno Le Maire” he added. The latter announced Monday that the reopening of shops could take place as of November 27. About fifty LREM deputies are asking for the same thing.
The government will decide “next week” on the issue of reopening shops for Black Friday, government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Tuesday. But by then we must put in place a reinforced health protocol.
