The schedule for the construction of the hall planned for the Lappeenranta Race Park is tight, as it should be in use at the beginning of November.
To Lappeenranta The construction project of the planned first ice hockey hall in Finland has seen a new bend.
There was a delay in the project’s already tight schedule, as the Ministry of Education and Culture will not decide on grants for the construction of sports facilities until the end of May instead of April.
The delay is due to the decision of the center to recycle ministers. Antti Kurvinen becomes Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and is replaced by a Member of Parliament as Minister for Sport Petri Honkonen.
Aviasport Arena is building a hall in Lappeenranta Race Park on top of the current artificial ice rink, the cost value of which is approximately four million euros.
Hallin the future main tenant is the city of Lappeenranta. It has committed to purchase ice time for EUR 385 000 per year, the same amount it has used to run the artificial ice rink.
The schedule for building the steel-framed hall is tight, as it should be operational in early November, when the ice hockey season begins. It is also the deadline set by the city of Lappeenranta.
“It’s a bad thing if the decision moves. The sand in the hourglass decreases the further you go into spring. The challenge is growing, ”says Aviasport Arena Sakari Myllys comments.
Aviasport Areena has applied for a construction grant of a maximum of 30 percent of the VAT-free cost estimate. The chances of success of the project are strongly believed, as the hall is affordable and the first to play ice hockey.
As soon as the timing of the decision is clear, the company will work to streamline the project permitting process already with the city’s building inspectorate.
Finland The construction of the first hockey rink has also been hampered by the rapid rise in raw material prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.
“There is even a shortage of material availability. But don’t paint trolls on the walls. However, we are moving on the basis that things will succeed and be resolved. We are not dealing with the impossible in a construction project. ”
The main users of the hockey hall would be the men’s league team Veiterä and the women’s league team Wiipurin Sudet.
Aviasport Arena calculates that it will receive significant additional income, especially from the time before the start of the ice hockey league, when Finnish teams used to travel to camps in Sweden.
In addition, Aviasport Arena has outlined co-operation with the Finnish Curling Federation, among others.
