Huig Plug was a prison whistleblower. Now he is a persistent conspiracy theorist who had to appear in court on Wednesday for threatening outgoing Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge. He was given 2.5 months in prison and must go to prison for a week if he comes within 50 meters of the ministers again.
On Wednesday afternoon, a few dozen people stood in front of the court in The Hague with a banner #FreeHuig. The police had to force them to keep them away from the entrance of the court with batons. In the morning a small plane flew through the sky with a tow behind it: Don’t Forget Uvula Plug. Arranged and paid for by sympathizers of the man from Katwijk. In the courtroom, one of those supporters yelled “dirty bastard” at the prosecutor. He had to leave the room.
For some, Huig Plug (53) is a true whistleblower. A former prison employee who exposed abuses in the prison hospital in Scheveningen and then focused on an even bigger alleged conspiracy: that of the pedo-sadist elite. In that reality, there is a network of high-ranking people in the Netherlands who ritually sexually abuse and murder children. That abuse is not investigated and covered up by the same elite. Since three other men (Micha Kat, Joost Knevel and Wouter Raatgever) who persistently bring out this theory, have been imprisoned for incitement and threats, Plug is the most visible publisher of this story. A story shared countless times in like-minded Telegram groups and Twitter timelines.
To many others, Plug is a conspiracy theorist who accuses people of heinous crimes without evidence and a man who insults people in an annoying way. In recent months, he has pursued various ministers, including Prime Minister Rutte and senior officials at the Binnenhof and at ministries, always asking questions about the conspiracy in which he himself firmly believes. In October, he was ordered by the court in Rotterdam to delete a number of tweets and videos about a judge. Plug accused the judge and her husband of abuse of power, child abuse and participation in a pedo network. He shouted those accusations out loud, among other things, outside her house. He was unable to provide evidence that his allegations were correct.
Threat: photo with body bags
On Wednesday, Plug had to appear in court in The Hague for threatening outgoing Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge. He was not so much concerned with the alleged pedo elite, but with the corona measures. On November 2, half an hour before Rutte and de Jonge were to hold a corona press conference, Plug posted a photo showing two body bags next to a station wagon parked in the woods. “No press conference tonight, sorry folks,” the photo read. Plug was arrested a few days later and has been incarcerated ever since.
If Hans Teeuwen had posted it, it would have been funny. But I’ve been stuck in isolation for 300 hours now
De Katwijker confirmed to have posted the photo. ,,I did not take that photo myself, it must be an image from a crime scene or something. The picture went viral on social media that day. If Hans Teeuwen had posted it, it would have been funny. But I’ve been stuck in isolation for 300 hours now. Bizarre. An international scandal. The truth is being murdered.” Plug says he has ‘no bad intentions’ and is against violence. “I just want to point things out.”
The Public Prosecution Service sees it differently. Rutte and De Jonge felt threatened and filed a report. ,,What plays a role is that Plug can often be found at the Binnenhof. Criticism is allowed, but he is moving towards extremism. He links Prime Minister Rutte to a pedo network. Plug also has a lot of influence on his supporters, which can also be seen and heard outside here.” The Public Prosecution Service therefore demanded three months in prison, one of which was conditional. The judiciary also wants Plug to stay away from Rutte and De Jonge, for every time he does seek contact, he would have to spend a week in jail.
Plug’s lawyer stated that the Katwijker did not want to threaten Rutte and De Jonge. The picture has also been shared by many others. Also by accounts with 160,000 followers. They have not been taken to court.” He asked for acquittal.
The court did not find that there was arbitrariness. “You posted this tweet just before the press conference. The tension in society was already high. This picture was not a joke, but threatening.” The judge sentenced Plug to ten weeks in prison, of which four weeks suspended.
