The Basmanny Court postponed consideration of the lawsuit on the liquidation of Sokhnut in Russia until September 19
The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has postponed until September 19 the consideration of the case on the liquidation of the Sokhnut agency in Russia, which is engaged in the repatriation of Jews. This is reported by “Kommersant“.
As the newspaper notes, the postponement for a month is connected with the Jewish Agency’s petition, filed “to form a position on new written evidence and try to eliminate the identified violations.” In addition, the Sokhnut representatives asked for a two-month conciliation procedure, but the court rejected this request.
Earlier it was reported that the assistant to the Prime Minister of Israel for national security Eyal Hulata contacted colleagues from Moscow. He suggested postponing the hearings on the Sokhnut case in order to discuss ways of a settlement. Such an initiative followed a recent telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Israeli counterpart Yitzhak Herzog.
On July 21, the Russian Ministry of Justice instructed the Basmanny Court of Moscow to liquidate the Sokhnut agency without explanation. In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid ordered the creation of a special commission for negotiations with Russia on the continuation of the organization’s activities.
