There had recently been great resentment in Paris because the USA had negotiated a new security pact for the Indo-Pacific region behind the back of France in the past few months.
NAfter the US’s recent solo foreign policy attempts, French President Emmanuel Marcon is not sure whether his American colleague Joe Biden still sees France as an important partner. When asked about this before an informal EU summit in Slovenia, the head of state said on Tuesday evening: “We will see. I only believe in facts. ”The exchange will take place again in mid-October and also at the G20 meeting at the end of the month. “I think this will be the right opportunity to see how we can get involved again very specifically.”
In France and the whole of the EU, there had recently been great resentment because the USA had negotiated a new security pact for the Indo-Pacific region with Great Britain and Australia behind the back of the EU in the past few months. In this context, the French state-owned company Naval Group lost an order to build submarines worth over 50 billion dollars. In addition, Washington is accused of lacking consideration for the interests of EU partners with a view to the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Macron emphasized on Tuesday evening that decisions had been made. He could not say that there had been any signs of taking France or Europe into account.
