Is called “Connected Home Charging” and it is a BMW and Mini charging ecosystem that allows its users to connect their car to the energy system “as part of a sustainable and climate-neutral family”. A project born from the cooperation between the Bavarian Group and E.ON whose objective is to exploit the enormous potential that electric cars have in the exclusive use of green energy.
Home charging is at the center
The focus of the project is in fact home charging, i.e. the most important use case, on which the two partners are bringing their respective skills: The BMW Group is responsible for the vehicles and charging hardware and manages the interface with the customer focusing on their mobility needs. For its part, E.ONin addition to providing installation, electrical and connectivity services to homes, has the task of guaranteeing sustainable energy tariffs and access to the energy market.
Two variations
Intelligent control of charging processes allows two variations: solar-optimized charging, which allows you to use the maximum possible amount of electricity from the home's photovoltaic system, and load-optimized charging, which optimally balances the amount of electricity available in the home . In addition to increased convenience, the development and use of the ecosystem also offers customers the potential for save on costs, increase the self-sufficiency of families and optimize their carbon footprint.
The words of Frank Weber
“BMW represents the 'Ultimate Electric Driving Machine', but for us electric mobility is much more than just electric driving: green energy, sustainably sourced raw materials, charging, recycling, we are bringing forward all these key factors at the same time ”, says Frank Weber, member of the Board of Directors of BMW AG responsible for development. “Together with E.ON we will make the car an intelligent element of the smart home. This will bring more balance to the private energy ecosystem, with lower costs and a better carbon footprint, and enable smart integration into the energy market in the future.”
