Midsummer outbound traffic will start to appear already on Wednesday evening, predicts Fintraffic’s road traffic center.
According to forecasts, the busiest day for outbound traffic is Thursday, when traffic in Southern Finland starts to pick up in the morning.
Traffic volumes are at their highest on Thursday afternoon between three and five, when traffic can queue up on the busiest road sections. Outbound traffic continues briskly until seven in the evening, and in northern Finland it can continue late into the evening.
The busiest on road sections, speeds can temporarily drop from twenty to thirty kilometers per hour. Queues may also temporarily form for ferries in the Turku archipelago.
Fintraffic estimates that traffic will probably slow down the most on highways 4, 5, 6, 9, 20 and 22 between Helsinki–Lusi, Lusi–Juva, Lusi–Mikkeli, Loviisa–Utti, Tampere–Jyväskylä, Oulu–Pudasjärvi and between Oulu–Muhos.
Outbound traffic continues on Friday morning and is busiest during the day between eleven and three o’clock. However, traffic volumes on Friday will be lower overall than on a normal weekday.
In addition, several ongoing road and bridge works may slow down road traffic during Midsummer, Fintraffic reminds in the release.

Return traffic will probably slow down the most on highways 4, 6 and 9 between Hartola–Lahti, Kouvola–Loviisa and Orivesi–Tampere.
