Director of the Institute for Peacekeeping Initiatives and Conflictology Denis Denisov called the measures taken by the Lithuanian authorities to combat illegal migrants, such as the introduction of an emergency regime on the border with Belarus and checkpoints at the camps, “stupid and inadequate”. His words lead “News”.
The expert noted that the statements of Vilnius are an informational confrontation, while additional incentives and factors are needed to put pressure on Minsk.
“Actually, this statement, these initiatives have nothing to do with reality. If Lithuanian officials and bureaucrats had a goal to somehow resolve the situation with refugees, they would have had several plans in advance for such a development of events, ”concluded Denisov.
Earlier it became known that in Lithuania they decided to set up checkpoints with military equipment near camps with illegal migrants. We are talking about migrants from Asian and African countries who illegally enter Lithuania from the territory of Belarus. The country’s Defense Ministry stressed that the Lithuanian authorities will use armored vehicles to guard the camps, if necessary.
On July 26, the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania reported that this month Lithuanian border guards detained 100 times more illegal migrants from Belarus than in January.
