Sibelius’s concert will sound as two very different interpretations on the opening day of the finals.
Classical music
The first final concert of the international Jean Sibelius Violin Competition at the Music Hall on May 27. Helsinki City Orchestra, conducted by Anna-Maria Helsing, and Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk.
Sibelius Violin Competition Ukraine has started the final concerts Dmytro Udovychenko the sound of the violin seems to fit particularly well with the obligatory work of the finals, which is, of course Jean Sibelius violin concerto. In addition, each competitor will also play a second concert, which they will be able to choose from a relatively wide selection. The finals will continue on Saturday night and the winner will be announced at the end of Sunday.
Udovychenko when playing the Sibelius Concerto, the sound of his violin had a sophisticated solidity, and the well-assembled sound brought a clear anchor in the midst of the mythical atmosphere of the work.
The controlled and thoughtful way of interpreting Udovychenko’s previous episodes made Sibelius’s concerto a balanced whole, in which the technical challenges of the work did not seem to slow down the soloist. He is a skilled violinist who adds strength and sensitivity to his playing in a good proportion. On Sunday, his optional final song, i.e. Dmitry Shostakovich first concert.
South Korea Inmo Yang had chosen as an optional work Carl Nielsen concert. This masterpiece concerto takes away the beliefs right from the first beats, when the introduction is also a violin solo virtuoso performance by the violin soloist. There are actual cadences in both parts of the two-part concerto, which Yang also played with virtuoso touches.
From the very beginning, Yang’s playing had an intense grip, and on the other hand, there was a constant, forward-looking interpretation of the longer-line singing subjects. Brilliant playing from a strong-willed artist. Yang’s interpretation of Sibelius ’concert will be heard on Sunday.
Armenian Diana Adamyan played the Sibelius Concerto more extreme than Udovichenko – the interpretation ranged from silence to explosiveness, and in the same way compared to the Radio Symphony Orchestra and Dima Slobodenioukin orchestral parts compared to the Helsinki City Orchestra and Anna-Maria Helsingin previously working with Udovychenko.
The orchestra roared at its best like a storm, for example, as it moved on to the final theme of the first part, and Adamyan’s playing was similarly unpredictable.
The skillful technology supported the fastest tones, and on the other hand the quiet tones sounded beautiful. He will call on Saturday Felix Mendelssohnin concert.
Of the United States Yesong Sophie Lee played as an optional concert Ludwig van Beethoven a violin concerto, the interpretation of which included his technical know-how familiar from previous installments. The playing was effortless and light, but maybe it could have had more tones.
Lee emphasized beauty and romantic sentimentality in his playing, and of course, the first two parts in particular offer a lot of potential for a beautiful, much vibrato-colored sound. But on the other hand, there would be opportunities for a more lush expression in the finals. In effortlessly audible cadences, Lee’s virtuosity was evident. Lee will play the Sibelius Concerto in Saturday’s final concert.
