Associations from all over Spain protested the crime, but the Police have not yet confirmed that it is a homophobic crime
Hundreds of people joined in Murcia and Cartagena this Monday to the national call to condemn the murder of Samuel, a 24-year-old young man who died last Saturday in La Coruña from a beating by a group of young people. Associations from all over Spain protested the crime, but the Police have not yet confirmed that it is a homophobic homicide.
The Murcia concentration was called by the organization No Te Prives in the Cardenal Belluga square “against the PGTBIphobic attacks.” Hundreds of people called for “justice for Samuel.” Some carried rainbow flags and banners with slogans such as “Embrace our identity.”
In Cartagena, the Plaza del Icue welcomed the mobilization. The president of Galactyco, Alberto Alba, expressed his rejection of the death of the young man and warned of the increase in “attacks” against LGTBI people in recent years, a fact that has been attributed to the “whitening of hate speech”, among other causes .
«A few years ago there were attacks, but it was frowned upon; now the insults, the disqualifications and, what is worse, this murder are returning ”, said Alba, who highlighted the importance of acting from the educational sphere and that the whole society is involved to end homophobic behaviors.
