They protest the lack of hours dedicated to the subject in the Primary and Secondary curriculum
The Association of Music Teachers of the Region of Murcia (Admurm) held on this Saturday morning a protest rally in the Cardenal Belluga square in the capital under the slogan ‘For a decent basic musical education for all’. During the mobilization, they protested the scarce presence of music education in the Primary and Secondary curriculum.
According to the president of Admurm, Margarita Muñoz Escolar, the concentration had a marked didactic and artistic nature, since it consisted of a free-access flamenco cajon class taught by Alejandro Solano, renowned percussionist and conservatory professor.
Margarita Muñoz expressed her disappointment at the new reform “which once again forgets about creative education in general and about music education in particular.” «Both the curricular proposal of the Ministry of Education and the one made by the Ministry of Education of Murcia once again forget about the subject that contributes the most to the development of the brain at an early age, that works the most on sensitivity, creativity and improves significantly the physical and mental health of people ”, he stated.
Muñoz explained that this new cut is in addition to those that have been produced in the last ten years in which music education has always been the harmed. «It seems that it is being assumed that music education has to be given outside of schools and institutes and this is the same as saying that only families with resources can have access to it, hence our motto ‘For a dignified musical education for all and all'”. “Music is life, it is happiness, it is balance and leaving it marginalized in the curriculum is a serious mistake for a society that aspires to educate a responsible citizenry,” he concluded.
Finally, the president of Admurm announced new mobilizations. The next one, scheduled for December 18, will coincide with a large state mobilization organized by the Confederation of State Music Education Associations (Coaem).
