The National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Water Comission (With water) have issued an urgent notice about the weather forecast today due to the extreme weather conditions expected in several regions of the country.
The forecasts indicate heavy occasional rains, intervals of showers and isolated rains in different states, accompanied by electric shocks and possible hailstorms.
Where will there be heavy rains in Mexico today?
They are expected heavy occasional rainswith accumulations of 25 to 50 millimeters (mm), in the states of Chiapas, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Tlaxcala.
These precipitations could cause landslides, increases in the levels of rivers and streams, as well as overflows and flooding in low-lying areas.

Likewise, they are expected shower intervalswith accumulations of 5 to 25 mm, in Aguascalientes, Mexico City, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Oaxaca and Zacatecas.

While in localities in the states of Aguascalientes, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Michoacán, Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas Gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are forecast with possible whirlwinds.
The dust devils could affect Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Jalisco and Querétarowhile winds of 40 to 60 km/h are expected in Campeche, Quintana Roo and Yucatanwith additional dust devils in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Morelos, Oaxaca and Sonora.
Why the bad weather in Mexico today?
These adverse conditions are the result of a combination of meteorological factors: a dry line over the north of the country, the interaction with humidity from the Gulf of Mexico, instability at high levels of the atmosphere and a current of maximum winds.
Additionally, low pressure troughs over central and southeastern Mexico, along with moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, and the tropical wave number 1 south of the Yucatan Peninsula, contribute to the generation of these climatic conditions.
