Alejandro Amenábar chairs the jury of the musical contest organized by the prestigious Jumilla wine group
“The Gil Soundtrack Award is a commitment to continue supporting young musical and film talent,” says the president of the jury for the fifth edition of this competition, the Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar. The deadline for submitting entries to this call has already ended, to which composers of 28 nationalities have attended.
The Gil Soundtrack Award, organized by the Viñas Familia Gil group, is an international award for young composers between the ages of 18 and 35. The initiative was born in 2016 on the occasion of the company’s centenary.
Held every two years, it is the largest award of its kind in existence, it is endowed with 50,000 euros and is unique in its category in the world. Its objective is to promote and value the work and talent of young composers. Of the total number of works presented, a committee made up of experts will select twelve finalist compositions that will be made public on October 8. At that time, the finalists will be evaluated by the jury that will decide the winning composition.
The award for young authors, unique in the world, has an economic endowment of 50,000 euros
‘Lo que sembras’ is the short film chosen in this edition to compose its soundtrack, a story full of emotions and feelings that represents the values of the Gil family, values such as tradition and the fact that the important thing is to be able to be part of a family even if you were not born into it.
The title also refers to that popular saying that “what you sow, you reap”, since its protagonist reaps what he has sown in life. The short has been selected from a previous script competition in collaboration with ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) and produced by it with a team made up entirely of students and graduates of the school.
Alejandro Amenábar, winner of an Oscar and seven Goyas, filmmaker and composer of soundtracks for films, is the president of a jury of exceptional quality. As in previous editions, the jury is completed with recognized and award-winning professionals in the direction of symphony orchestras, composition of soundtracks, production and distribution of film and music at a national and international level, in addition to incorporating a member of the founding family of Viñas Familia Gil, organizers of the contest.
In previous editions, the jury has included great international figures, such as the Scottish composer Patrick Doyle, the American composer Bruce Broughton or the Icelandic composer and cellist Hildur Guðnadóttir, winner of an Oscar for the film ‘Joker’.
