Chemical attacks of this type have been increasing last July, and exceed 30 cases throughout Spanish territory
Chemical submission is the administration of a substance with psychoactive effects to a person without their consent or knowledge, with the aim of modifying their state of consciousness and overriding their will (in most cases, alcohol). This type of crime, usually with sexual objectives, went from 14% to 35% in 2021 and the situation in these months has only worsened, with the growth of the well-known ‘punctures’, a technique by which a psychoactive agent in the victim through a puncture. “I noticed a strong stab and I began to feel bad,” said a young woman affected in a nightclub in Barcelona.
In Spain, the first cases arose after the celebration of San Fermines last July. Four women went to the emergency services presenting symptoms such as dizziness or loss of consciousness; all this after noticing a puncture in the middle of a crowd of strangers. Since then, these events have been repeated throughout the territory, especially in Madrid, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, Catalonia and the Basque Country. It is precisely in these last Communities where the majority of the cases are found: 17 in the case of the Basque community, with the two attacks this past weekend; and 18 on the Catalan side, where the Generalitat has increased the police force and has activated a protocol to carry out toxicological analyzes on the victims.
And it is that one of the main problems for the security forces is the absence of traces of toxic substances in the complainants. Attacks include fast-reacting elements such as ecstasy that affect perception of reality, or sedatives and painkillers that render victims unconscious. The documented attacks always occur at night and in entertainment venues, and the victims assure that after noticing a slight prick, dizziness, nausea and other symptoms that denote poisoning appear.
One of the origins of this type of bacteriological violence is France. In nightclubs, such as the well-known Parisian club ‘Bataclan’, the first documented cases occurred. This type of attack spread rapidly, reaching up to 300 complaints throughout the French nation, which resulted in protests throughout the country. The cases reached different parts of Europe, such as the United Kingdom or Belgium, accompanied by demonstrations against the little case of the police in this type of aggression.
Symptoms and how to act in these cases
The main features of the cases show symptoms such as:
– Excessive sleepiness.
– Clumsiness in movements.
– Headache.
– Nausea or vomiting.
– Blurry vision.
– Parallel reality: they hear or see strange things.
– False or non-existent memories.
– Memory loss.
– Bad clothing.
– Disorientation.
– Presence of strangers.
– Your friends or witnesses affirm that your behavior is strange or that you had not drunk enough to be like that.
In case of noticing a puncture, the health authorities recommend communicating it to your closest environment at that time and asking for help and alerting the security forces. Victims should go to their nearest hospital, to try to locate toxic substances in the blood that show the attack
