Verkhovna Rada deputy from the “Opposition Platform – For Life” (Opposition Platform – For Life) Renat Kuzmin said that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) opened proceedings on the claim of the head of the political council of the party Viktor Medvedchuk against Ukraine. Medvedchuk’s associate wrote about this in his Telegram-channel.
Kuzmin published a document from the ECHR and said that the claim could be considered “in the near future in the order of priority proceedings.”
“It seems that the European Court will consider Medvedchuk’s case before the Ukrainian one, and a decision in his favor may become the basis for the resignation of the prosecutor general and the start of the impeachment of the president,” the deputy said.
Medvedchuk complained to the ECHR in June. He claims that his criminal case is politically motivated and that the authorities violate his right to a fair trial and personal security.
In May, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Irina Venediktova, announced that Viktor Medvedchuk and another deputy from the HML Taras Kozak were suspected of high treason and embezzlement of national resources in Crimea. As a result, Medvedchuk was accused of treason and infringement of the customs of war. He was placed under house arrest. Kozak has been put on the wanted list.
