The Ministry of Community Development has completed the evaluation of the process of distance education for people of determination that took place within the government rehabilitation centers, based on the “distance education quality scale” for people of determination, which was codified by the Department of Care and Rehabilitation of People of Determination, and targets government and private centers in the UAE.
Nasser Ismail, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Welfare Affairs at the Ministry of Community Development, said: The results of the educational process for the academic year 2020/2021 are characterized by many achievements despite the challenges it faced due to the “Covid-19” pandemic, noting that the Ministry of Community Development has benefited from the results of a study (Challenges facing people of determination and their parents during the last period) in developing the virtual education system for people of determination so that it is ready for everyone.
Nasser Ismail touched on the most important points of development that took place in the educational process for people of determination in the centers, which made its success a reality during the last period, including: providing electronic devices for people of determination in the centers, including the necessary educational applications, and launching some electronic programs such as the “Khta” platform. The application of “My Family is with Me”, in addition to providing the necessary technical support to parents, and launching a set of guides and training programs for employees, such as specialized training workshops on virtual education for people of determination, a guide for virtual meetings for this category, and other guiding initiatives that contributed to the success of the education plan. Remotely in centers for people of determination.
For her part, Wafa Hamad bin Sulaiman, Director of the Department of Care and Rehabilitation of People of Determination, stated that during the next phase, the distance education quality measure and its standards will be applied to non-governmental rehabilitation institutions for People of Determination, to ensure the effectiveness and quality of education provided to people of determination in them. She said that the scale can be used in the next stage if education continues in the centers, whether by default or hybrid, or until the state of education in the centers is fully returned, as it can be used to measure the quality of education provided for some cases in which students receive distance education due to their own circumstances. health conditions, travel conditions, treatment, etc. She explained that according to the package of development initiatives on the distance education system during the current academic year, the results of evaluating the centers of people of determination on the distance education quality scale were high and met expectations, as the degrees obtained by the evaluated centers ranged between (87.1% and 95.6) %), which puts it in the rank of excellence and leadership in achieving the goals of the educational process as a whole, and the achievement of the educational goals allocated to students in proportion to their individual abilities and needs, in addition to the effective involvement of their parents in the educational process from home.
Wafa Hamad bin Suleiman stated that the standardization of the quality of distance education for people of determination on the reality of the local community in the UAE had been completed earlier, as it was applied in the pilot phase to (204) teachers of people of determination in government and private centers, and the evaluation criteria were modified. And reformulating some of them based on the feedback from the target audience, and grouping the (38) criteria included in the scale according to 6 main areas: the field of educational plans and the extent to which they are formulated in proportion to the students’ abilities, the virtual preparation that is applied with students, the virtual learning environment and its suitability for students. In addition to the field of distance education methods used with people of determination, the field of follow-up with the family in the home environment and other natural environments for students, and finally the field of assessment and outcomes achieved from virtual education and their relationship to the educational plans developed for students.
