Sector increased 0.9% in April compared to March, in the seasonally adjusted series; has an increase of 2.7% in 1 year
Retail sales grew for the 4th consecutive month in April. They registered an increase of 0.9% in April compared to March, in the seasonally adjusted series. O IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) released the result this Thursday (June 13, 2024). Here’s the complete of the report (PDF – 3 MB).
Trade rose 2.2% compared to April 2023, the 11th positive rate followed in this type of comparison without seasonal adjustment. The accumulated result for the year reached 4.9%, while the annualized rate (accumulated in 12 months) was an expansion of 2.7%.
The IBGE said that 5 of the 8 activities surveyed registered an increase in April compared to March. Are they:
- office, IT and communication equipment and material (14.2%);
- furniture and household appliances (2.4%);
- fuels and lubricants (2.2%);
- hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, drinks and tobacco (1.5%);
- and pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic and perfumery articles (0.6%).
Two sectors fell in April: books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (-0.4%) and fabrics, clothing and footwear (-0.7%). Other articles for personal and domestic use remained stable (0%) in the month.
EXPANDED TRADE
Broad retail trade – which includes vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces, construction materials and wholesale food products – recorded a drop in sales volume of 1% in April compared to March, in the seasonally adjusted series. It grew 4.9% compared to the same month in 2023. Extended retail accumulated an increase of 4.7% in the year and 3.3% in 12 months.
