Columns The re-launched Bachelor series became a horrible pancake, and production can only blame it on itself.

The Finnish Bachelor could be a perfect mix of a light and serious dating program, but it is not, writes Piritta Räsänen.

In early spring many fans of the love reality exuded with enthusiasm: Bachelor has returned!

The last time a reality TV series was seen in Finland was in 2019, when it was still part of Nelonen’s program. Now new Bachelor 2022 is shown on MTV.

At first, the new season seemed promising. The bachelor of your dreams Timo Harvey stood in the yard of a luxury villa and received women getting out of the car. There was excitement in the air and the first encounters were endearingly embarrassing.

Originated in the United States in 2002 Bachelor is one of the most famous love affairs of all time. In Finland, it could be a perfect mix of a light and serious dating program – the centerpiece of a series with Ex on the Beach Finland and in another First dates on the altar.

Unfortunately Bachelor 2022 however, it was already in its infancy and can only be blamed for production.

When participants get to talk to Harvey, it is quickly revealed that all the natural conversation has been cut off from the episodes. All that is left is stubborn discussions about hobbies and circular descriptions of anyone’s dream partner.

In the middle of the season, another bachelor from Forssa jumps in Tuomas Lahti. Was the season becoming too boring for one single man, I wondered on the couch at home.

There’s more stiff exploration ahead, where no one seems to forget the cameras for a moment. In addition, some of the women are hanging out at the manor, as only a few of the women are taken on singles.

Of the United States Bachelor embarrassment can be broken with group dates: in the first half of the season, individual dates and two group dates are seen in each episode. Everyone gets out of the inn and gets to meet the bachelor.

New season however, the most unfortunate turn was heard only after the episodes appeared: the editor Katri Utulan Love of realityIn the podcast, both singles say they had to play a role in the series that didn’t feel right to them.

“I had to fit in a certain mold. It was perhaps put under some pressure. It had to work a certain way. After all, I am a Lapland junta, ”says Harvey.

Bachelor participants are now being sought for the next term. The production of the series could also look for itself. The Finnish format does not have to be a direct copy of its US big brother-in-law.

Therefore, flat cocktail parties and bowling could be less in the future.

The Reality Love podcast can be listened to at Supla. Helsingin Sanomat and Supla belong to the Sanoma Group.
