Column|The most famous Actors are sometimes called charismatic, but what does that really mean?
I am met the stars of the world of masks. Such as Kristen Stewart, Meryl Streep and Uma Thurmansuch as Javier Bardem, Daniel Craig and Channing Tatum.
I have also often been asked which of the actors has made the biggest impression in an interview, i.e. in real life. The questioners seemed to be united by the same ulterior motive. The riddle of charisma. What is it made of, what is it?
None of the mentioned has made the biggest impression on me. My answer is neither Bill Murrayalthough he behaved in a memorable way: at the end of the group interview, the actor put a petite female reporter on his shoulder and carried her out of the room.
My answer is no either Nicole Kidmanalthough when asked he praised the Finns in the winter war.
And neither Joaquin Phoenix. What made his interview memorable was that the actor slammed the door when the conversation turned personal.
supplier Kirpi Uimonen has also talked about Hollywood eye-catchers.
In his recent book Hollywood as a workplace Uimonen talks about his work, the actors he meets, and the criticized journalists’ association HFPA, of which Uimonen has been a member for a long time.
In the book, Uimonen also refers to charisma. Among others, he considers charismatic actors Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Uimonen does not analyze the essence of charisma.
Often charisma is associated with charm, i.e. exceptional performance, often especially with successful men. I think that’s a false assumption.
Charisma is not about grandiose appearances, bluster, narcissistic manipulation or a mystical halo.
Charisma is something much simpler: presence. Having ears and eyes open, interested. This is especially important for actors, because in their work, art is created in contact with the opposite actor, the audience or the camera.
“
Charisma is presence.
In the end, the most charismatic actor I’ve met is not one of the most celebrated and followed in the world. Many people remember him, for example Wolf Palaceseries, but he has acted in London theaters for a large part of his career. His films are streamed, among other things The ghost of golf courses mixed Bridge of Spies.
The most charismatic actor I’ve met is British Mark Rylance.
When we met, he spoke softly. However, he didn’t push himself, he was just open. Short meeting, big impression. The feeling arose that we were close, had always known each other. I could have held her hand.
