The month of March will be really special for Colombian soccer. Not only for international club competitions, but for what will be the closing of the qualifying round for the World Cup in Qatarwith a light of hope for the Selection.
The month started badly for Millonarios, who was left out of phase 2 of the Copa Libertadores, losing against Fluminense in both games of the key.
It was a first blow for Colombian soccer, which continues to accumulate setbacks at the continental level.
Atlético Nacional was looking to come back this Thursday against Olimpia de Paraguay, to stay alive in the tournament, in phase 3.
The South American
March also marks the start of the Copa Sudamericana, a tournament in which Colombia will have four representatives: Medellín, América, Junior and Equidad.
Medellín and América will play one of the keys, starting at the Atanasio Girardot on March 9, and will close at the Pascual Guerrero on the 16th.
For its part, the La Equidad and Junior games will be on March 10 and 17.
The team’s dream
March will also mark the end of the qualifying round for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Colombian National Team will face Bolivia, in Barranquilla, and Venezuelaas a visitor, in their last two games.
On the penultimate date, Reinaldo Rueda’s team will face Bolivia, on March 24, around 6:30 pm, in Barranquilla.
The Colombian National Team will travel to Venezuela to face the team now led by Argentine coach José Néstor Pekerman. The duel against the neighboring country will be on March 29, at 6:30 p.m.
Before the first initial whistle sounds, the tricolor will start in seventh position in the table, with 17 points. To date, four points separate it from fifth place, which gives quota for playoffs, and Peru occupies.
The accounts for Colombia to have options to go to Qatar start with the six points they should get in their games. Then, since it no longer depends on itself (it must wait for other results), the idea is that neither Peru nor Chile (now direct rivals) add up in their respective duels.
