Miguel Ángel Cárdenas Montilla, a Colombian from 32 years, surrendered to Russian forces while fighting with the Ukrainian army. After saying that he was ‘surrendering’ he also said that his motivation for this was to prevent his death.
Cárdenas explained, in a video published by international agencies, that he decided to travel to Ukraine after seeing several videos on TikTok.

In the recording, the Colombian is seen with a swollen eye and the left side of his face with some scratches and injuries.
The Colombian also mentioned that his decision was influenced by his concern for his family and his four children.
“I realized that Ukraine lied to us”
In the short recording that has been released, Cárdenas, with a noticeably hurt appearance, explains in a soft voice that he understood that the country he had traveled to provide his help I had lied to him.
“I realised that Ukraine at that point lied to us because he told us that we were only going to take care of him, but they ended up shooting us down.
