Colombia’s long streak without beating Argentina
Colombia have failed to win any of the three previous clashes against Argentina. On November 9, 2019, they lost 1-0, with an own goal by Daniela Arias, at the River Plate training headquarters. Three days later, at the Ezeiza venue, they tied 2-2. Manuela Paví and Sara Sofía Martínez scored the Colombian goals. Milagros Menéndez scored twice for the Argentines.
The most recent duel was on Sunday, with another tie at two goals, at the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali. Catalina Usme and Mayra Ramírez scored for Colombia, while Linda Bravo and Chiara Singarella scored for Argentina. That 2-2 broke a streak of three consecutive victories for the Abadía team.
Colombia’s winless streak against Argentina is long. The last victory was in the Copa América in Ecuador, in 2010: 1-0, with a goal by Ingrid Vidal.
“The game with Argentina left us with what was the offensive and defensive tactical structure. There were mistakes that we are going to analyze to prepare ourselves better. We are left with a good feeling, but we are not satisfied,” Abadía said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“We must continue to strengthen in consolidating the group well in the technical and tactical part. In the mental part, we have been solidifying. We were at a disadvantage and the team reacted,” he added.
