BOGOTÁ (Reuters) – Colombia has again issued three red alerts to three key dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country’s police chief announced on Monday, urging other Interpol member countries, including Venezuela, to the arrest and extradition of the wanted.
The so-called FARC dissidents are members of the demobilized guerrillas who reject a peace agreement signed in 2016 with the Colombian government.
International arrest warrants were issued for Hernán Dario Velásquez, known as El Paisa; Henry Castellanos, known as Romana, and José Vicente Lesmes, known as Walter Mendoza.
The three men are members of a splinter faction of the FARC led by Luciano Marin, better known as Ivan Márquez.
Interpol red alerts were issued to Márquez in August, and the United States offered $10 million for information leading to his capture.
“We are proceeding with the reactivation of international arrest warrants against this drug trafficking group,” said General Jorge Luis Vargas, director of the Colombian police.
Márquez, who was one of the FARC negotiators who signed the peace agreement with the government, and other leaders declared their rejection of the agreement in 2019 and went back to arms.
Dissident leaders face charges of drug trafficking, terrorism, murder, forced displacement and other crimes against humanity in Colombia, Vargas said.
