General Colin Powell, former secretary of state of the United States during the government of President George W. Bush, died this Monday (18) as a result of Covid-19, at the age of 84, his family revealed through social networks.
In a statement, the family said Powell was fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and was being treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
“General Colin L. Powell, former US Secretary of State and Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid-19,” the Powell family wrote on Facebook.
“We lost a husband, a father, a remarkable and loving grandfather, and a great American,” the note continues.
