Coldplay rely on BMW to make their concerts more sustainable. One of the most successful groups in the world music scene has in fact decided to focus on the energy provided by recycled BMW i3 batteries to fuel the concerts scheduled for their “Music of The Spheres” world tour. “We are proud to partner with BMW to create the world’s first rechargeable show battery, which will allow us to power our concerts almost entirely with clean and renewable energy“, said Chris Martin, the Coldplay frontman.
The batteries will replace the diesel and gas generators at the concerts of the British musical group, which altogether will require 40 rechargeable batteries coming from BMW i3. There are several methods that will be used to recharge the batteries, from solar panels to generators powered by hydrotreated vegetable oil, better known as HVO. In an official note, BMW also wanted to express all its satisfaction with this collaboration: the German car manufacturer reiterates that this is the first demonstration of how automotive batteries can be recycled for second-life applications. “It is an important step in the advancement of electric vehicles – underlines the German brand – The production of automotive batteries still carries significant CO2 emissions, so finding ways to recycle them will be important for reduce their polluting footprint and, potentially, their cost “.
“The common awareness of sustainability has led in recent years to an intense and creative collaboration process between BMW and Coldplay – said Jens Thiemer, Senior Vice President Customer and Brand BMW – By using the second-life batteries of the BMW i3 we are helping Coldplay’s world tour to become even more sustainable ”. We also remember that Coldplay made their song available to BMW “Higher Power”For the advertising campaign of the latest electric of the German brand, iX and i4.
