The eleventh edition of ‘Fall in love with you‘, a traveling project by Codere Italia which this year landed on the web, live streaming on the YouTube channel. Journalist Cecilia Leo will moderate the appointment. Objective: to stimulate the debate on gender-based violence, particularly on that consumed during the global pandemic.
The event was attended by Imma Romano, Director of Institutional Relations of Codere Italia, Rosaria Avisani of Fidapa-Italian Federation of Women in the Arts, Professions and Business. Angela Di Salvo, Commissioner of the State Police, Anticrime Police Division of the Rome Police Headquarters. Maria Antonietta Labianca, Supreme Court Criminal Lawyer, Isa Maggi, National Coordinator of the General States of Women, Paolo Vincenzoni, Colonel of the Carabinieri, Commander of the Violent Crimes Department of ROS.
“Obviously never like this year – he says Imma Romano – it was necessary to emphasize what dramatic consequences the pandemic has brought, although we all thought we would become better – he observes – it seems clear to me, however, that society is now much less inclusive, especially in relation to the figure of women. We are all called to respond to this challenge, the President of the Republic said so, the Prime Minister tells us, we say it ourselves every day. Institutions – he stresses – will work for this but the individual, companies cannot and must not refrain from carrying out activities of this type to ensure a more sustainable future for everyone ”.
“Gender difference has been used by society and culture – remember instead Marie Antoinette Labianca, Cassation criminal lawyer – to create an unequal relationship in which women have been imposed a role of subordination to men. We see it above all in the place that should protect the rights of citizens indistinctly: the Court, or where the truth should reign and instead stereotype too often reigns. The Court is not a place separate from the cultural and social reality in which it operates, but is its further representation. The juridical sector is in fact imbued with prejudices that are expressed with the questions that are addressed to the victims in the processes of violence or in the motivations of the sentences. However, it is possible to break down gender prejudices, starting from educating in families to respect for others and not imposing educational models in which there are separate and assigned roles of those who serve and those who are served ”.
For Rosaria Avisani of Fidapa-Italian Federation of Women in Arts, Professions and Business, “Never as in this period it is necessary to raise awareness and promote the “culture of respect“for every human being, but with particular attention to respect for girls, girls and women of all ages. Strange regurgitations dictated by ignorance, opportunism and pathological powers are clouding the daily life of women in all countries of the world and also in Italy. Relaunch the paradigm and the value of respect in every area and context, never miss the opportunity, I believe it is the first operation to be carried out and the only tool to bridge the gaps and dossiers still open, such as violence, ‘education, care and paid work and the pay gap ”.
“It is good to remember – explains Codere Italia – that during the Covid-19 pandemic it was women who were the protagonists: of the 49 million people working in the health sector, 76% are women. Particularly present also in essential services that remained active during the lock down: the female gender represents, for example, 82% of cashiers and 95% of those engaged in welfare and domestic work. And in childcare jobs and support teaching we are at 93%. About 84% of working women between the ages of 15 and 64 are engaged in so-called female jobs in the economy: nursery schools, housework and secretarial work, retail, hospitality services and tourism. Positions that have been heavily affected by the pandemic with consequent job losses. And there where the work was kept, it had to be combined in smart-working mode with the care of children struggling with distance learning. All this – she recalls – has produced a real escalation in violence against women. With the restrictions on movement, and the consequent forced coexistence within the home, it has become more difficult for the victims to even ask for help from the police or simply contact the anti-violence number “.
“Often, also on the basis of prejudices and a badly perceived distrust of the Authority, it is believed that the victim’s complaint is not followed by an adequate response in terms of repression. Actually – he declares Paolo Vincenzoni, Commander of the Violent Crimes Department of the ROS – the denunciation, in addition to the formality of the act, is in fact the incipit not only to the exercise of the criminal action, but, thanks to the legislative revisions that have taken place over time on the specific issue of gender-based violence and against women in particular, it actually allows the adoption of immediate and important preventive measures against the perpetrators of violence, not only by the Judicial Authority, but also by the Police Authority. Only with the denunciation can we interrupt what, technically, for insiders, is known as the “cycle of violence”, that is, that cyclical and tragic path in its evolution, which is sometimes taken to its extreme consequences “.
“The phenomenon of gender-based violence – highlights Angela Di Salvo, Commissioner of the Anti-Crime Division of the State Police, Rome Police Headquarters – even before repressive intervention, it needs to be fought by promoting a gender culture that, in a systemic way, aims to eliminate cultural heritage and discrimination. This work of cultural renewal has also affected the State Police which for five years, as part of the “This is not love” campaign, has been carrying out the Camper Project. A multidisciplinary team – he concludes – made up of psychologists, investigators and operators of anti-violence centers goes to the main meeting places, squares, schools, universities, making their skills available to those who request them, trying to encourage direct contact with potential victims, with the aim of informing and helping to bring out cases of hidden or hidden violence “.
Finally, Codere Italia recalls that, “the recent news has also brought to light the extremely difficult position of women in Afghanistan, a country where the Taliban have regained power and in a flash have effectively canceled the hard progress made in the last 20 years. reassurance of local government forces, at the moment no women are present in the new executive. Further restrictions have also been announced such as those from practicing certain sports. It is no better in universities where men and women are kept strictly away or in different classes or separated from blackout curtains: a real gender segregation. Added to this are new diktats on clothing, on entry and exit times to prevent socialization. An alarm also launched by UNESCO which spoke of the risk of “generational catastrophe” which it would wipe out the enormous progress made in particular for girls and women, in addition to this, according to UN data , a poverty rate of 72% “.
