The third season of Cobra Kai was a hit on Netflix, since its premiere on January 1. Fan expectations were high, but were far exceeded after the leaders of Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang (Johnny’s new group) teamed up to defeat John kreese.
The villain, played by Martin Kove, showed how scary he could be, but we also learned about his past in the Vietnam War. After this, several fans raised the possibility of a spin-off focused on the character and this could become a reality according to the latest statements from the showrunners.
In an interview with TVLine, Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Haydne Schlossberg talked about the bet to do more shows that expand the fictional universe. “Our hope is that we can expand this whole world around the Karate Kid, revitalize the fan base,” they explained.
After these words, the creators took as an example their favorite series, Breaking bad, and how there were two related projects, Better call Saul and the movie El Camino, that expanded their world. “We want it to be a story that we can continue to tell,” they emphasized to the media.
“We’ve spent (season three) most of the plot focused with Kreese, but we could have spent more time with his background. We have so many things to narrate that half-hour episodes are not enough ”, were his words regarding his potential.
Until the directors agree, fans have to wait for the premiere of the fourth season on Netflix, which already has the scripts ready to shoot. Are you planning to lose it?
