“Considering the severity of the covid-19 pandemic and the spread of new strains of the coronavirus, and also taking into account the high number of participants [aproximadamente 5 mil] in the 15 to 17 age group, the COB understands that it must ensure the physical integrity and health of everyone involved”, says the note of the COB.
In November 2021, the country’s traditional student base event was renamed Youth Games, a change that took place after 15 years, during which time the tournament was called Youth School Games. Before, the competition came to be called the Youth Olympic Games.
Big names in Brazilian sport have gone through the former School Youth Games, such as Olympic champion Sarah Menezes and world champion Mayra Aguiar, both judo, Hugo Calderano (table tennis), Raulzinho (basketball), Ana Claudia Lemos (athletics), Etiene Medeiros and Leonardo de Deus (swimming).
