CNN has indefinitely suspended Chris Cuomo, one of its most famous and successful presenters. That writes the American television network Wednesday. Cuomo is said to have been more closely involved with his brother and ex-Governor Andrew’s defense team than previously thought, violating journalistic standards.
Andrew Cuomo resigned as governor of New York State in August following persistent allegations of sexual abuse. Documents now released by the New York State Attorney’s Office show Chris was heavily involved in his brother’s defense campaign.
For example, he would have tried to find out through connections in the media world which stories about his brother’s case would come out. Cuomo has admitted to behind a story by US investigative journalist Ronan Farrow, but says this is “common” in the press.
Farrow has been honored for his role in exposing allegations of large-scale sexual abuse by film producer Harvey Weinstein.
But CNN says Chris had “inappropriate” contact with his brother’s team, violating journalistic standards. He has been suspended indefinitely — further investigation is required to determine whether he can return. His evening program Cuomo Prime Time is one of the most watched programs on the television channel. When his brother resigned as governor, he told viewers that he was “not an adviser” but “a brother.”
