The Spanish Chess Championship has already started in Murcia. The mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, accompanied by the councilor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Pedro García Rex, visited the Cagigal pavilion this Thursday, where the event is being held in the ELO Sub 2300, 2000 and 1700 sections, according to reports. municipal sources in a statement.
In this competition, which began on August 30 and will end next Sunday, 330 young people from different parts of Spain participate. The champions of each category will represent Spain in the next World Cup, to be held in Malta, and up to 9,000 euros will be distributed in prizes. Serrano stressed that “thanks to this championship are visiting our town about a thousand people, which is an economic and tourist boost for Murcia.”
For his part, García Rex highlighted “the work that the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports has been doing, attracting the organization of events of this caliber, due to the projection it represents for the city and for the rest of the municipality and the consequent benefit that reported in many sectors.
In this competition there are no finals but it is developed by the ‘Swiss system’, that is, they add points daily and the one who has added the most wins. In this way, all participants are in the competition from the first day of the championship until the end.
