The thickness of the South Colin glacier, which has formed over thousands of years, has thinned by as much as 55 meters in the last 25 years. According to the study, this pace of the glacier will probably disappear completely only in decades.

Attracting climbers Mount Everest is located in the Himalayan mountains on the border of Nepal and China, and the South Col Glacier about a mile below its highest peak.

Nepali climber Kami Rita Sherpawhich has climbed Everest 25 times since the 1990s, said it had taken note of the change.

“We see the rock unearthed from places where there was snow before. Not only Mount Everest, but other mountains have lost snow and ice. That’s worrying, ”Sherpa told AFP.

The glaciers of the Himalayas are also an important source of water for mountain dwellers.
