Climate protest at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol: 500 demonstrators block private jets
Now the next protest action is making waves – albeit in a neighboring German country. In the Netherlands, a number of people gained access to Schiphol Airport in the capital Amsterdam on Saturday. As the Reuters news agency reports, it is said to have been several 100 people. There is talk of up to 500 people. The action was carried out by the groups “Greenpeace” and “Extinction Rebellion”. Residents of the airport were also there to demonstrate against the aircraft noise.
The activists were therefore targeting private jets. As “Greenpeace” itself stated, there were sit-ins, and several people chained themselves to the planes to prevent the machines from taking off. With a sit-in under a plane, around two dozen activists blocked a jet that was parked. “We demand fewer flights, more trains and a ban on unnecessary short-haul flights and private jets,” said Dewi Zloch of Greenpeace in the Netherlands.

The military police have also begun to “remove people from airport premises,” according to the report. A spokesman for the military police spoke to the image of six arrests. However, there were no violent incidents.
