The elected head of government, Clara Brugadaheld a private meeting on Monday with federal deputies from Morena, the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM) and the Labor Party (PT), with the aim of coordinate the construction of a legislative agenda at the federal level focused on the priorities of Mexico City.
At the meeting, key issues were addressed such as: budget, public debt, water, mobility, education and securityamong others.
Brugada Molina stressed the importance of maintaining a constant dialogue between the local government and legislators to ensure progress on the most pressing issues for the capital.
“It is essential that we are in constant communication and that legislative proposals reflect the real needs of the capital’s residents,” said the future president.
Priorities for the City: Water, mobility and education
One of the main points of the meeting was the water problem. Brugada stressed the urgency of legislating around a State policy that guarantees a sustainable plan in each entity of the country, with the support of the Federation. “We need a national vision to solve the water crisis in Mexico City,” he emphasized.
In the area of mobility, Brugada announced the Construction of five new Cablebús linesthree of which will be in progress next year, benefiting the municipalities of Tlalpan, Álvaro Obregón and Xochimilco. This expansion of the transportation system seeks to improve access and reduce travel time in areas with difficult connectivity.
In terms of education, the elected head of government presented her school facilities renovation planas well as the implementation of a pioneering program of musical education, called Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol, which will be part of the curriculum from basic education. This project aims to strengthen the artistic and cultural capacities of children in the capital, promoting inclusion from an early age.
Public Care System: Pillar of social policy
Another of the key proposals put forward by Brugada was the strengthening of the Public Care System, a pillar of social policy that seeks to serve the most vulnerable sectors of the population. In this regard, he stressed that Mexico City is the only entity in the country that has made progress in its implementation, and requested the support of federal legislators to expand and consolidate it.
“It is essential that we continue to strengthen the Public Care System. This effort must guarantee the rights of the elderly and those who need specialized care, promoting equality and combating inequalities from the earliest ages,” he explained.
During the meeting, Brugada Molina also raised the need to create a Metropolitan Councilwhich would allow for greater coordination between mayors, municipalities and local and federal government authorities. This body would seek to make joint decisions on key issues for Mexico City, promoting comprehensive governance in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.
“It is imperative that all authorities work together, from mayors to popular representatives, to make informed decisions that improve the quality of life of citizens,” he added.
The federal deputies present at the meeting, including Estela Carina Piceno Navarro, Dolores Padierna, Sergio Mayerand Gabriel García Hernández, among others, expressed their commitment to the agenda proposed by the elected head of Government.
They stressed the importance of strengthening collaboration between the Congress of the Union and the capital government to ensure that federal resources and legislative reforms respond to the needs of Mexico City.
They also stressed the leading role of women in the public agenda, highlighting that the next head of government becomes a key figure in continuing to promote human rights, gender equality and women’s political participation in Mexico.
