The player of the Cittadella involved in a dramatic accident, the historic collaborator grenade died last April
An atrocious and mocking fate that of Lino Simonetto, who loved the Cittadella madly enough to become a volunteer collaborator (as a retiree), overwhelmed and killed by the car of one of his idols, the Cittadella midfielder, Christian D’Urso. The player, despite himself being the protagonist of this terrible accident on 23 April, is now in danger of ending up on trial on charges of road murder. The investigation, conducted by the prosecutor Roberto Piccione, has been closed and according to the elements, the 23-year-old footballer is clearly responsible for the death of the retiree, 77, who is fully invested in an intersection a stone’s throw from the stadium.
Simonetto, a longtime collaborator of the grenade club, had left the house on his bicycle to go as usual to the stadium bar to have a coffee. Shortly after he crossed the car of D’Urso that overwhelmed him: the 77-year-old falls to the ground, immediate the call for help and the transfer to the hospital. It seemed nothing serious but with the passing of the hours the situation worsened: from the hospital in Cittadella he was transferred to the hospital in Padua where he underwent an emergency operation. After six days of agony he died. His death was a shock to the whole grenade world.
The trial for D’Urso is not taken for granted. The young man asked to be heard to tell his version of events. According to the findings of the accident, the midfielder was walking along via Ca ‘dai Pase when he reached the intersection, turning left to take via Gabrielli, he took the curve too tight, invading the opposite lane hitting the 77-year-old. Simonetto had been married to Laura Cervo for 54 years and the father of four children. He and his wife emigrated to Switzerland immediately after their marriage, but in 1973 Angelo Gabrielli called him and offered him a job offer in his steel company.
