Yes, it really is: the Citroën Oli is the Citroën of the future, and the brand calls it ‘not a car’.
Citroën unveiled their new logo last week. The ‘double chevron’ remains, but in an oval, a bit like before. Then it won’t be long until this logo adorns a new Citroën and we get to see it now. His name is Citroën Oli and he doesn’t come to a dealer near you.
Citroen Oil
The Oli, whose name is only ironically the lubricant for combustion engines, remains a study model. In fact: Citroën does not even call it a car. The press release reads, and it is true: “Not a car: a versatile addition to your everyday life that is just as useful when you’re not driving as when you are driving.” Nice and strange, but secretly that is exactly what you want from a Citroën. And the strange doesn’t stop with some crazy sentences in the press release.
Angular pickup!
The Citroën Oli is an angular device and, moreover, it is a pickup! It is therefore quite a rough thing. But don’t think of this as a Hummer EV, because durability is certainly important. You will find many sustainable materials on the exterior. For example, a lot of the plastics used are made from recycled cardboard.
What is also striking is the windscreen: it is upright at an angle of 90 degrees. That sounds like an aerodynamic nightmare, which it probably is. Not to mention flies. Why? Because you use a lot less glass that way: extra durable. In addition, less sun comes in, so the air conditioning does not have to work as hard. According to Citroën, the air conditioning saves so much energy that the loss in aerodynamics is less important.
bumpers
The front bumper is a large plastic ‘off-road’ style bumper with an aluminum colored piece and even two red attachment points for towing. Coincidentally, the rear bumper is also an off-road-style bumper with an aluminum-colored piece and two red tow points. These bumpers are therefore interchangeable. Everything about the Citroën Oli is designed to be easy and cheap to replace. Recycling also takes place between Oli’s, which means that Oli’s “that can no longer be saved” can donate their parts to slightly damaged ones.
Interior
The interior of the Citroën Oli is also very sustainable. Simple, straightforward and everything is made from sustainable materials. And very red. A certain type of plastic has been used extensively by BASF, much of which is made in the interior. Including the seats, of which the Oli has four by the way. The Oli has no infotaiment but a dock for your smartphone. It then works well with the vehicle functions of your Oli.
Study model
We say ‘your Citroën Oli’, but you probably won’t be able to buy the Oli in this form. Citroën emphasizes that it is a study model to test all these innovations. It is, however, a big chunk of inspiration for the future. Citroën has shown courage with the Ami and it seems that something similar to the Oli is coming on the market. Citroën wants to release it for about 25,000 euros.
