Citizen participation is one of the solutions to actively intervene and generate positive changes or improvements in our community; And if we want that because we are outraged, upset and/or dissatisfied; then you have to act; and if we act purposefully and on the path of legality, then there are many chances of achieving it.
In this column I want to comment on the Centro Histórico AC Project in Mazatlán, because it seems to me a worthy example of citizen participation and without a doubt a reference to be considered in other areas of the city.
Twenty years ago, a multidisciplinary group of citizens and organizations, mostly Mazatlecos and inhabitants of the historic center under the leadership of Eng. Alfredo Gómez Rubio, joined efforts to improve the development conditions of the historic center, highlighting the identity and heritage of old Mazatlan. as historical heritage with the future vision that it would be that small community of inhabitants and national and foreign business people who appreciate culture, tradition and ancient architecture, attracting more and more tourists and locals to enjoy its unique character, as well The Historical Center Project Civil Association was created, seeking organization, collaboration and incorporating the public and private sectors to guarantee quality of life and achieve social, economic and cultural development.
Today, 22 years later, the project continues, integrating more volunteers (academics, businessmen, architects, professionals in different fields and civil society) under the direction, vision and leadership of Lic. Amado Guzmán, who has also built communication bridges and connection with the municipal, state and federal authorities for the development of each activity and management, in such a way that this group of people interested in contributing and contributing to having a better city are facilitators and support for the municipal authority, in the understanding that it is the responsibility of all to become citizens and that is why the importance of respectful synergies between government and civil society.
It is important to highlight the openness of the current Municipal President Edgar González, who at all times has listened and supported the initiatives of the Project, valuing and respecting an organized civil society; which denotes the will to work in a coordinated manner and as a team to achieve common objectives and for the benefit of the Historic Center of Mazatlan.
