Some cities such as Chapecó (SC) and Ourinhos (SP) are dealing with outbreaks of a disease called “hand-foot-mouth” and that affects children, common at this time of year. Despite being a disease with higher incidence in this period, authorities report that it is a growth above expectations and may be related to the return to classroom classes.
Since September 29, Chapecó has registered 63 cases of infected children in eight different schools, the same number of visits in Ourinhos only on Sunday (24).

O Ministry of Health credits hand-foot-mouth disease as a contagious disease caused by the “Coxsackie” virus of the enterovirus family. They inhabit the digestive system and can also cause stomatitis, an infection that causes canker sores in the lining of the mouth.
In addition, the virus also causes fever, red spots in the mouth, malaise, vomiting, diarrhea, poor appetite, body aches, blisters and skin rashes.
And the transmission takes place in the classic way: direct contact between contaminated people or through contaminated secretions and food. The virus can be transmitted in the stool for 4 weeks, even after the person has recovered.
The Ministry also says that there is no specific treatment for the case, as it regresses after a few days. The suggestion is that people do not leave the house until the virus stops manifesting itself in the body.
