Stefano Albertini and Danilo Fappani got off to a very strong start this morning on the decisive day of the Rally Due Valli, winning all three special stages and climbing to the top of the overall standings of the Verona event.
Albertini, after winning the PS2, took the lead overtaking Basso and thus became the tip of the balance both for his season and for that of Giandomenico Basso.
In PS3, the San Francesco 1 of 12.80 kilometers, Fabio Andolfi crashed, breaking the left rear suspension of the Skoda Fabia R5. At this point he was forced to retire.
In the following special, the PS4 Orsara 1 of 12.86 kilometers, it was Andrea Crugnola’s turn to raise the white flag. The Varese driver went off the road with the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 and was forced to retire in turn.
With this classification situation, which sees Stefano Albertini ahead of Giandomenico Basso in the general classification of the event, Andolfi would still have the mathematical possibility of winning the tricolor rally title at Liburna, the last CIR appointment. Crugnola, on the other hand, is out of the game.
If, on the other hand, Basso changes pace and returns in front of everyone at the Due Valli, he would be the one to win the 2021 Italian rally title already this weekend.
Albertini, however, will have every interest in remaining in first position. Not only to win the event, but also because if the situation remained unchanged it would mathematically bring home the CIRA title (Italian Rally Championship) mathematically, already this weekend, against Fabio Andolfi.
With the retirement of Andolfi and Crugnola, the third place in the general classification ends up in the hands of Giacomo Scattolon, 24 “6 behind Albertini. The latter, on the other hand, has a small advantage over Basso: just 2” 4. Fourth place for Tommaso Ciuffi, who could have what it takes to compete for third place with Scattolon. Only fifth Damiano De Tommaso at the wheel of the Citroen C3 R5 champion in 2020.
