CI Games revealed that it had implemented a final round of layoffs as part of the “restructuring plan” which began in January: the consequence is that now other 30 people lost their jobs at the team.
CI Games is known as the parent company of various teams, such as Hexworks aka the author of Lords of the Fallen. Fans of this game will be happy to know that no Hexworks employees have been fired. However, it is not clear exactly from which teams these 30 people were removed.
The information was shared with the GamesIndustry.biz newspaper, but the company’s official comments are few regarding the fired staff and mostly deal with confirm the health status of some projects being developed internally.
Statements from CI Games
In the statement released to GamesIndustry.biz, CI Games – developer and publisher – said that this “final, targeted series of layoffs” will affect approximately 30 people across its production teams and has the aim of guaranteeing “maximum efficiency in the realization of future strategic priorities”.
As mentioned, the company specified that Hexworks, the team behind Lords of the Fallen, has not been touched and that the developers are still working on the new game known for the moment simply as “Project 3”. All we know is that it’s an action RPG. Could it be a new soulslike or a sequel to Lords of the Fallen?
Going further than Hexworks, it has been indicated that a Underdog Studio, CI Games’ second internal developerwas given a longer period of time to finish a conceptual version of his new game known in this case as “Project Survive” (we can assume it’s some kind of survival game, but hard to say more) before the game enter full production.
Going back to talking about those fired, a spokesperson for CI Games said: “All affected employees have been informed today of this proposal and will be fully supported through the process over the coming weeks.”
Speaking of layoffs, Xbox’s are on a larger scale.
