According to information from local authorities, they were all vaccinated, but one of them had returned from South Africa a couple of days ago
A nice corporate Christmas dinner in Oslo has turned into a major Covid outbreak, with a significant dominance of cases infected by the Omicron variant. More than 120 people attended the event and, not only were they all vaccinated with two inoculations, but they all had a swab as well. No one had yet received the third dose of the vaccine and they were all between 30 and 50 years old.
Among them, however, was a guest recently returned from South Africa and evidently infected with the variant of Omicron, something verified by the local health authorities after the party. Had the employee returned from South Africa also swab? To hear him, yes, and it was negative. But no one had checked it, we had been satisfied with self-declaration.
Now at least 140 people are infected, and likely to reach 150 shortly. Fortunately, no one appears to have developed severe disease at the moment. Some of them were in the restaurant to celebrate the company dinner, others would be part of the staff and patrons of the place who were present at the same time or in the next “shift”.
The analyzes on 17 of the infected give the certainty of an Omicron variant contagion, for the others, the analyzes are underway, but the health professionals expect many more.
