Round heads are considered ideal for humans. In light of this, Chinese parents are buying items like pillows, sleeping pads and helmets for $4,300 that help shape their children’s skulls.
A new Chinese beauty trend is making waves. She says that there is nothing better than a round head, finding it terrible to have an asymmetrical head. As a result of this new concept of beauty, parents across China are looking for items that round out their babies’ soft skulls.

An unnamed mother on the Xiaohongshu forum states: “I think wearing a helmet has the same function as wearing braces, which is to correct a part of the body and make it more beautiful.” She said she had “head correction equipment” custom-made for her one-month-old daughter.
She added: “I have a flat head and I know how painful it is for women seeking beauty. I don’t want my daughter to grow up and regret that part of her. ”
The round head trend started in earnest in October 2021. Since then, Chinese parents have been buying heads to “correct” the shape of their children’s heads.
The items are pillows that change the shape of the head, specialized mattresses and custom-made helmets that can cost up to US$4,300, equivalent to R$22,000.
For most days, children wear these helmets to keep their heads round.
On the internet, users share their shame of having flat heads and encourage parents to adhere to the new fashion.
“The shape of your head determines your attractiveness. Give your kids a good start and fix their head bones while you can,” wrote one user on social media site Weibo.
Another Weibo user lamented the shape of his own head, writing, “Look at my flat head. I asked my mom if it’s because she made me sleep on my back to flatten my head on purpose. It feels like the back of my head has been cut off. ”
More than 30,000 people also responded to the trending Weibo thread “How flat can a head get” by asking questions about shaping their children’s heads, praising celebrities with round heads, and discussing various headgear to “round off” their heads.
Chinese sellers waste no time. So, several e-commerce sites are advertising “fix” items for the head.
One of the ads reads, “Heads angled, flat, sharp, please come into our store.” This merchant sells about 200 pillows for $47 a month to parents who want to mold their babies’ heads.
