A man climbed into a hydrogen balloon to harvest pine nuts from a tree in a forest park in northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, but lost control and traveled 320 kilometers before he was found. Chinese state media say the man was found safely after spending two days in the air in a hydrogen balloon.

The man, identified only by his surname Hu, and a partner were collecting pine nuts in a forest park in northeast China’s Heilongjiang province when they lost control and the balloon took off. The other person jumped to the ground and a search was started for the escaped balloon and Hu.
State broadcaster CCTV said rescuers were able to reach the man by cell phone the next morning and instructed him to slowly deflate the balloon to land safely. It took another day before it made landfall about 200 miles northeast in the Fangzheng region, close to the Russian border.
Hu was in good health, apart from a pain in his lower back, possibly from being on his feet the entire time he was in the air, CCTV said.
