A drone from the Chinese technology company DJI, designed to make deliveries, broke the altitude record last April with a delivery made to Mount Everest. With the collaboration of a Nepalese company, he managed to transport three oxygen bottles and one and a half kilos of supplies.
As reported by the technology company, the journey began at the mountain base camp, until reaching level number 1, where the cargo was delivered. On the way back, the trip was used for the drone to transport garbage.
The drone crossed an ice waterfall
The route taken by the unmanned aerial vehicle presented several difficulties, as stated by DJI. In one of the phases, he had to cross the icefall that separates the two camps.
The function of this type of aircraft “has the potential to revolutionize the logistics of climbing Everest,” according to corporate strategy director Christina Zhang, both in cleaning tasks on the mountain and in the safety of the people involved in the climb. escalation process.
The Chinese company leads the sector of drones for agricultural and forestry uses, together with another local company. However, the manufacturers of these devices are now looking for new applications.
Although delivery drones still account for only 8% of demand in China, the number of these aircraft has grown rapidly in recent years, adding more than 25,000 units in 2022 alone, according to data collected by a report by China Securities.
