Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spoke about the cancellation of the trip in an interview with local journalists
A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed “understanding and respect” the cancellation of the president’s trip Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) to China this Sunday (26.Mar.2023). Responding to a question from a Chinese journalist during a daily interview with local media, he stated that the “Chinese part expresses respect and understanding” to the decision of the Brazilian government and wishes “his speedy recovery”. The statement did not name the spokesperson.
Lula was due to leave this Sunday for Beijing accompanied by the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, ministers and congressmen. He was due to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28.
The official visit, however, was canceled on Saturday (25th March) on medical advice. Lula was diagnosed with mild pneumonia on Friday (March 24) and, although his doctors say he is in good health, he would still be transmitting the Influenza A virus on the days he would be in China.
