Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday called for peace in Ukraine, warning against achieving the security of some countries at the expense of others.
This came in statements he made at the opening of the BRICS business forum, which includes five countries.
Xi said the military operation in Ukraine, which began in late February, has once again raised an “alarm to humanity.”
In addition to China, the BRICS bloc includes Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa.
He added that countries would be in trouble “if they placed their blind faith in their strength, expanded their military alliances and sought to achieve their security at the expense of others.”
“History has shown that hegemony, group politics, and confrontation between blocs bring neither peace nor stability, but war and conflict,” Xi told the curated forum via a video link.
He said that the international community should cooperate in resisting hegemony and power politics.
It is scheduled to meet the leaders of the “BRICS” countries, tomorrow, Thursday, via video technology. This time, the summit is chaired by China.
