Travelers coming from abroad should be transferred to specialized hospitals if they have a fever or rash
China will begin testing travelers from abroad for monkeypox. According to the National Health Commission, testing for the disease will be done together with tests for covid-19, during the quarantine period.
The commission signed the directive requiring testing last Friday (July 1, 2022). The agency urged cities to check travelers for monkeypox virus, with an eye on those with a history of travel to countries with reported infections in the 21 days before entering China.
The new guideline recommends that travelers who have encountered people infected with the disease report the contact to local centers for disease control and prevention.
In addition, local centers must be informed in case of rash symptoms in travelers so that they can be transferred to specialized medical institutes, which must do an etiological screening and ask about the epidemiological history of patients who have fever and rashes to rule out. symptoms not caused by chickenpox, rubella or measles.
In areas where smallpox is considered endemic, guidance suggests that people avoid contact with rodents and primates, including sick or dead ones. The blood and flesh of these animals should also be avoided.
To handle infected animals or tissues, people should wear gloves and appropriate protective equipment.
