USA evacuates its citizens
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian expressed his “firm opposition” to the decision to The United States to evacuate non-essential personnel from its consulate in the eastern city of Shanghai due to the rebound in covid cases and the measures taken by the authorities to control it.
“The United States should immediately stop attacking China’s prevention policy” and “using the pandemic for political manipulation,” Zhao said, adding that China has already filed a formal complaint.
The spokesman assured that the Asian country’s pandemic prevention policy is “scientific and effective” and that Chinese local governments “have provided assistance to foreign diplomatic and consular personnel in China as far as possible” during the pandemic.
Zhao expressed confidence that Shanghai, which is dealing with the largest-scale outbreak in China, will “overcome this wave,” citing “foreign citizens in the city who work with the Shanghai people to overcome difficulties together.”
