China says it will maintain economic ties with Russia

In a press conference, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbinsaid that “Beijing and Moscow, on the basis of mutual respect and equality, maintain their trade cooperation as normal” and that the country opposes any “illegitimate and unilateral sanctions”.

O chairman of the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) and vice chairman of the country’s central bank, Guo Shuqingstressed that China will not participate in sanctions and will continue to engage in “economic, financial and trade exchanges” with “all parties”, according to local media.

Despite denying sanctions on Russia, China said it encouraged de-escalation in Ukraine. He also said that he is looking, together with Ukrainian authorities, for ways to help Chinese immigrants return to the country.
