Despite the deepening energy crisis, Europe remains dependent on Washington’s policy towards Russia. Such a situation could turn into a real disaster not only for the West, but for the entire world community. This is written on September 29 by the Chinese edition Global Times.
It is noted that the dependence of European countries “on Washington has increased to such an extent that they have to dance to the tune of the United States in relation to their Russian policy.” The European Union continues to strengthen anti-Russian sanctions, harming itself.
“Europe’s suffering is worth thinking about by countries around the world, especially some of the US allies and partners in the Asia-Pacific region: when they blindly follow the US to consolidate their dominance in the world, who really wins? These countries also need to see that as the European economy plunges deeper into recession, Washington continues to use it to survive the disasters Europe is suffering from.
It is clarified that against the backdrop of skyrocketing gas prices and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, many European companies are fleeing Europe and moving their business to the United States, since their work depends on energy. For example, steel and fertilizer companies.
It is also indicated that Washington intervened in the situation in Ukraine through NATO. The publication believes that this only increased the dependence of European countries on the United States “in matters of security and weakened the strategic autonomy of Europe.”
Earlier, on October 1, columnist William Moloney, in an article for The Hill, drew attention to disunity among NATO countries, which increases as economic problems grow within the alliance states. As an example of the collapse of unity within the alliance, the author of the material cites the position of Turkey, which blocks the entry of Sweden and Finland into NATO, while other countries are in favor of joining.
Prior to that, on September 22, Foreign Policy magazine predicted Europe’s struggle for survival against the backdrop of restrictions on Russian gas supplies and the ensuing energy crisis. As noted in the materials of the publication, the EU is faced with a complex crisis that affects both the lives of ordinary citizens, as well as large companies and entire manufacturing industries.
Western countries have faced problems in the energy sector due to the sanctions policy against Russia, which provides for the reduction, and in the future, the refusal to import Russian energy resources.
