China announced on Wednesday the launch of a new Earth observation satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China, according to official news reports.
The Chinese official Xinhua News Agency reported that the launch of the Gaofen 12-05 satellite took place at 0745 am Beijing time (2345 pm Tuesday GMT), on board a Long March 4-C carrier rocket, and it entered the planned orbit successfully.
This satellite will be used in a variety of fields, such as land surveying, urban planning, road network design, crop yield estimation and disaster relief. This mission is the 540th flight of the Long March series of carrier rockets.
